If you has taken up public relations in your college and it is fast coming the time as recruiters will be visiting your campus, there are several things you need to do to assure yourself of the opportunity of being hired by any public relations company and the best chance to find your job when you get it. Public relations is a visible profession but not one when you can simply conceal yourself behind a desk. The weaknesses you have will stick out as a sore thumb.
While confronted by a recruiter, you should show confidence. You must persuade this person you can cope with any assignment, which comes your way. As you land the job itself, you should not be afraid to provide opinions in meetings. You may find some stupid ideas still if you demonstrate confidence, they may be considered. Though, you should not appear arrogant. It will work against you. You must find the necessary balance between arrogance and confidence. This is not easy, particularly for a young person.
When on the job, you need to hook up with your mentor, a person who you can learn from. The confidence does not make up for knowledge and experience. Your mentor will get you through the rough first year by providing you sound recommendation and by acting like a sounding board for the opinions possible.
Another thing that you need to know how to do is to learn from your personal mistakes. Mistakes occurs to everybody but the task is not to make one and the same mistake again. You should handle your mistakes and take criticism going with them.
